With heavy hearts, we at Team IP honor the life of James Levon Sparks, lovingly known as “Pops” to his associates and friends. A pillar of our community and a guiding force in the business he helped his sons build over the past 33 years, Pops passed away on October 20, 2025, at the age of 80, surrounded by the love of his family.
Born on November 5, 1944, in Muses Mills, Kentucky, James dedicated his life to serving others after giving his life to Christ at age 34. For 46 years, he shared the Gospel through various ministries, including a bus ministry and a widow ministry, reflecting his unwavering faith and love for others.
Pops was more than just a family man; he was a devoted husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather whose love knew no bounds. His family was his greatest treasure, and he took immense pride in each of their achievements. His spirit of generosity and kindness extended to everyone he met, making him a beloved figure in his church and community.
James was an avid sports fan, especially fond of The Masters golf tournaments and the Kentucky Wildcats basketball program. He enjoyed golfing on beautiful courses and had a talent for finding antiques at yard sales and auctions.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Mary Lou; children Randy (Carla), Sandy (Chris), Brandy, and Andy (Leslie); eight grandchildren; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers. He was preceded in death by his parents and several siblings.
James’ legacy of hard work, humility, resilience, and faith will continue through the Sparks Foundation, ensuring that his mission to love and serve others lives on. His family finds comfort in knowing he has heard the words he lived to one day hear: “Well done, my good and faithful servant.” – God
As we reflect on Pops’ life, we are reminded of the profound impact he had on those around him. His unwavering faith, love for family, and commitment to serving others will continue to inspire us all. We will miss him dearly, but we know his spirit will live on in our hearts and in the work we do at Team IP and the Sparks Foundation.
